Body Talk - Reconnecting to your body’s signals
What is somatic work?
How does it relate to Intuitive Eating?
What if I have questions?
Sounds great - how do I book?
Somatic work is an approach that focuses on the connection between mind and body, using awareness of physical sensations to support emotional healing and self-understanding. Rather than working only through thoughts or talking, it invites you to tune into what’s happening inside your body—things like tension, breath, posture, or subtle sensations—and to explore what they might be communicating.
The idea behind somatic work is that our bodies hold onto experiences, especially stress or overwhelm, and these can show up as patterns such as tightness, numbness, restlessness, or discomfort. By gently noticing and staying present with these sensations, with guidance from me, you can begin to process and release what’s been held, helping your nervous system move back toward a sense of balance and safety.
It’s typically a slow, supportive process that might include practices like mindful awareness, grounding, breathwork, and small, guided movements. Over time, somatic work can help you feel more connected to your body, better able to recognise your needs, and more regulated in your emotional responses.
Somatic work can be incredibly powerful within intuitive eating counselling because it brings the focus out of the head and back into the body—which is exactly where intuitive eating lives.
At its core, intuitive eating is about trusting internal cues like hunger, fullness, satisfaction, and emotional needs. But for many people, especially those with a history of dieting or stress around food, those signals can feel confusing, muted, or even unsafe. Somatic work helps gently rebuild that connection.
By slowing down and tuning into bodily sensations, you can begin to:
Recognise true hunger and fullness cues (rather than relying on rules or external structures)
Differentiate between physical and emotional needs without judgment
Notice how different foods feel in the body, supporting more satisfying and attuned choices
Build a sense of safety in their body, which is essential if eating has been linked with anxiety, control, or shame
Process underlying stress or trauma responses that may drive patterns like restriction, bingeing, or disconnection
Importantly, somatic work doesn’t force change—it creates the conditions for awareness. From that place, eating behaviours often begin to shift more naturally and sustainably.
Somatic approaches complement intuitive eating beautifully: instead of “figuring out what to eat,” you will learn to feel their way toward what they need.

We will work with anything that comes up in your body, and whilst your story or memories are incredibly important, for the purpose of our somatic exploration we will put them somewhere safe while we focus on physical sensations. We may include breath work, movement, grounding, or simply sitting still - we will use your body as a guide.
